Anise - Pimpinella Anisum

Anise (Pimpinella anisum) is an annual herb grown for its sweet, aromatic seeds and leaves. Anise plants thrive in full sun and well-drained soil, ideal for outdoor or indoor container gardening. Anise produces fragrant and flavorful seeds and leaves that are useful for baking, cooking, and brewing. Anise produces umbrella-shaped clusters of delicate white flowers frequented by butterflies (particularly swallowtail), bees, and other pollinators.

  • Fragrant Herb - Anise, also known as Aniseed, is a herbaceous annual plant from the Mediterranean region that offers a delightful fragrance and unique flavor. Prized for its licorice-like aroma, this herb is perfect for a home garden and can be grown easily in pots. Extend the life of this tender annual by bringing containers indoors before the first autumn frost.
  • Culinary and Medicinal Uses - Anise seeds are a kitchen essential used in baking, brewing, and cooking for adding distinct licorice flavor to bread, cookies, candies, and other foods. The green leaves and white flowers can be used in salads and other dishes. Anise can also be brewed as an herbal tea or otherwise used as a medicinal herb for soothing digestive properties and other health benefits.
