Stinging Nettle - Urtica Dioica

Stinging Nettle, (Urtica dioica), is a versatile perennial herb native to Europe, Asia, and Africa. Recognized for its stinging hairs, it is surprisingly a beneficial plant for your home garden. When cooked or dried, its leaves are edible and have been traditionally used in herbal teas and soups. With its high growth rate, it's sometimes considered a weed, but planting stinging nettle can provide abundant foliage and contribute to your garden's biodiversity.

  • Hardy Perennial Herb - Stinging Nettle, sometimes called burning nettle, is a perennial herb with a remarkable capacity to thrive in various conditions outdoors. This plant reaches 3-7 feet and is easily recognizable by its heart-shaped leaf with tiny hairs that cause a stinging sensation with touch.
  • Traditional Culinary and Herbal Uses - Stinging Nettle leaves have been used in traditional herbal remedies for centuries. The stinging hairs can be neutralized by drying or cooking. The dried herb can be used as a beneficial tea, and the leaves are excellent cooked and used as a nutritious, spinach-like green leafy vegetable.
